Artist's Description

Photograph. Nose Art from a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk (in FLYING TIGER garb) on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum. This is the fighter plane used by the famous "FLYING TIGERS" - 1st American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force. This group consisted of American volunteers attached to the Chinese Air Force and lead by (American) General Chennault. The group became known as the "FLYING TIGERS" because of the distinctive nose art on their P-40 Warhawk fighter aircraft and their ferocious tenacity in fighting Japans Military. Hollywood made several movies depicting the Flying Tigers 1st AVG.
