Description
M101 is a face on galaxy about 21 million light years away in the constellation Ursa Major (the Big Bear). (Ursa Major is also the constellation that contains the "Big Dipper".) This galaxy is also known as the "Pinwheel" galaxy because of its shape. With a diameter of about 170,000 light years, it is about 70% larger than our own Milky Way galaxy. Celestron C11 with Starizona Hyperstar (effective focal length of 580mm @f/2.0), Atik 490 EX color camera.
